Children Immunised

Haddington Rotary told us this week that they have raised almost £10,000 and they still had some money to collect. Through the Rotary International End Polio Now campaign, this figure will be added to by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Combined, the money raised will pay for around 115,000 children to be immunised.

Whilst there is no cure for Polio, it is preventable through immunisation. The World Health Organisation, UNICEF and The Rotary Foundation have been working to eradicate the disease since 1988. They have had a massive effect on the number of infections and are much closer to their aim but there is still work to do.
